Trust in God is a key concept in Islamic ethics and mysticism. Relying on the Qur`an, the ethicists have advised Muslims to realize this concept in their personal and social life. Mystics treat it as one of the mystical stages passing through which is a must for every wayfarer. Our written literature on ethics and mysticism frequently repeats the necessity of taking it into consideration. The Nahj al-Balāgha uses this term both in its moral and mystical senses. Imam Ali (AS) emphasize the importance of trust in God from different dimensions and considers it as the basis of faith, the cause of moral serenity, a way to achieve mystical poverty, and the cause of thinking. Yet, the Nahj al-Balāgha never knows trust in God as an alternative for human effort, but it works where the man cannot to do anything. In this paper, we will study the concept of trust in God in the Shia ideology based on the Nahj al-Balāgha as the most important book of Shia Islam.
